Does my vehicle not driven and parked in my garage need insurance

Sometimes our customers contact our agency and ask, I have not driven my vehicle and it is parked in my garage, so do I need to insure the vehicle?  The simple answer is yes, you have to insure that vehicle.  The Connecticut state statue requires that any vehicle that is registered for legal use on public roads in the state of Connecticut must be insured, even when that vehicle is not being driven and parked in your garage.  That is not true for other recreational unregistered vehicles like golf carts, which may have coverage under your homeowner insurance or can be specifically insured on a specialty insurance policies.  Legally registered vehicles like cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. needs to be insured by an automobile insurance policy or insured on a specific specialty insurance policy designed for specific vehicle types like motorcycles and golf carts.
