Hurricane Season has begun

Hurricane Season is in full swing, so now is a good time to think about Flood Insurance coverage to protect your home and personal property from water damage caused by Hurricanes and the amount of rainfall that occurs during a short period of time. Powerful coastal storms can bring damaging winds and heavy precipitation — and the New England areas face unique risks due to high levels of development and fewer green spaces to absorb water. This means a hard rain could become a flash flood in minutes, something that may not be covered under your homeowner insurance.

Many people assume their homeowners or renters insurance policy covers flood damage, but it doesn’t. Just one inch of water can cause up to $25,000 of damage, so it’s important for everyone to think about if they will need a separate flood insurance policy to safeguard their dwelling and possessions from the upcoming storms that occur during the Hurricane Season.

Remember, it takes 30 days for a flood insurance policy to go into effect, so the sooner you starting thinking and discussing the need for Flood Insurance, the better.  If you are not sure if you need Flood Insurance, please give us a call today to discuss!
